I did a bit of re-arranging in my kitchen yesterday.
I find such tasks particularly therapeutic.
These shelves hold four generations of family treasures; pieces I’ve found in flea markets in Europe, op shops in rural Australia and New Zealand and auctions and antique stores in Glasgow, London and Melbourne; beautiful cake plates, tea cups and vases by talented artists and dried flowers preserved forms special bouquets.
I’m a collector and a keeper. I believe objects hold memories and stories and meaning.
Handling and using each item in my kitchen sparks a memory and a remembrance. It is one of the reasons, I believe, that kitchen’s are such powerful spaces in the home.
